1950s-Inspired Double-Layer Ceramic Mug – Hasami-yaki Collaboration
Inspired by rare vintage designs exported from Japan to the U.S. in the 1950s, this uniquely structured double-layer skull mug has been meticulously recreated using modern ceramic techniques.
Developed over more than three years in collaboration with Kikusho Pottery, a renowned workshop specializing in Hasami-yaki ceramics, each mug is truly one-of-a-kind in its glaze and pattern—making it both a collector's item and a display-worthy piece.
Originating in Hasami Town, Nagasaki Prefecture, adjacent to the famed porcelain areas of Arita and Imari, Hasami-yaki has a history spanning over 400 years since the Edo period.
Once accounting for nearly one-third of Japan's domestic ceramic market, Hasami-yaki developed a robust division of labor system. However, many of its products circulated under the Arita-yaki name, leaving the Hasami identity less recognized.
The true strength of Hasami-yaki lies in its flexibility to innovate with the times, while maintaining exceptional craftsmanship—earning it high regard both domestically and internationally as a traditional Japanese craft.
Note: Due to the firing process, each piece has unique coloration and finish
